Named among World’s Top-10 Spas for Best Environmental Practices

November 6th, 2009

SpaFinder Inc, the global spa resource, has announced that Spa Eastman has been named among the top-10 best spas in the world for “Best Environmental Practices” in its seventh-annual SpaFinder Readers’ Choice Awards. Based on votes submitted by readers of SpaFinder publications, including Spafinder.com, the awards represent the most comprehensive consumer assessment of the global spa market available today. Over 360,000 votes were cast for favorite spas by continent, country, region and across 27 categories. Voters were asked to only cast ballots for stay spas they’ve personally visited within the past three years.

Spa Finder's Readers Choice Award

“After seven years of enthusiastic consumer participation, our Readers’ Choice Awards have become the industry’s premier award program - the spa world’s answer to the Academy Awards,” said SpaFinder, Inc. President Susie Ellis. “Now that there are roughly 15,000 hotel, resort and destination spas operating worldwide, for Spa Eastman to be singled out by our readers is a tremendous honor.”

Spa Eastman and Sustainable Development: A Natural Alliance!
“The challenge of sustainable development now goes far beyond organic gardening. In the last few years, our management and operations have been closely examined. As a result, several changes have been implemented and we are especially committed to pursuing these efforts to lessen our ecological footprint. It’s part of our mission” says President Jocelyna Dubuc.

Spa Eastman’s waste management program diverts over 23 metric tons from landfills, which represents an 81% recycling rate. The implementation of the 3RV (reduction, reinvestment, recycling & validation) is done systematically and the results are two-fold. Spa Eastman has adopted a program aiming on a constant evolution towards the achievement of balance in environmental, social and economic issues. It is based on 140 specific actions and has 24 objectives linked to sustainable development: greenhouse gas reduction, reinvestment, community, ethics and economic development.

Since its opening 32 years ago, Spa Eastman has gained international recognition for its commitment to promoting sound life habits in order to improve clients’ overall, long-lasting health. It’s an original and unique facet of sustainable development that we are all really proud of!

Quick Tip #1 - From our Fitness Team

October 28th, 2009

During your day at work, take time for a real break: for instance, stop a few minutes, close your eyes and breath slowly.

It will help you increase your concentration and decrease your stress!

Spa Eastman Montreal rejuvenates!

September 30th, 2009

At the end of last summer, Spa Eastman Montréal took advantage of major renovations to revamp its services and its overall approach. Here it is, for you to enjoy!

Spa Eastman Montréal

Spa Eastman Montreal, on Sherbrooke Street, was one of the first urban spas to hit the scene in down town Montreal almost 20 years ago today. Situated on the 16th floor of an office building, it offers renewal right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of the busy metropolitan. This summer major investments made it possible for Spa Eastman to receive an exceptional makeover adapted to its unique location and inspired by elements of nature characteristic of Spa Eastman in the Eastern Townships.

Spa Eastman Montréal

An innovative design concept brings together elements of the city and the country thus giving Spa Eastman Montreal an undeniable urban atmosphere that is also soothing. How? You ask! By using the magnificent view overlooking Mount Royal as a focal point!

Spa Eastman Montréal

As well as offering massage therapy, beauty and body treatments as it always has, Spa Eastman Montreal is taking advantage of this change to broaden its range of services and move even closer to the essence of Spa Eastman’s mission in the process. You will now be able to consult with naturopaths, nutritionists and kinesiologist/personal trainers in order to follow up on weight-loss and/or fitness programs started during a stay at Eastman.

Spa Eastman Montréal

Spa Eastman Montreal’s rejuvenation also highlights Nathalie Roy’s arrival in Montreal. She has been at the helm of Spa and Fitness Development for ten years and is very proud to integrate those new services into Montreal’s concept. “Well-being starts, first and foremost, with relaxation, physical activity and proper nutrition. Now Spa Eastman Montreal can offer all of this. More than ever we are truly an extension of what Spa Eastman has been offering since 1977!” said Nathalie on the re-opening day.

Enjoy!

Tip from our Fitness Team!

September 23rd, 2009

This fall, make sure you always have a pair of walking shoes in your car. As soon as you get an opportunity, put them on and enjoy the invigorating pleasures of a walk in automn leaves!

Take advantage of this pause to breathe deeply and look up in the trees. You’ll feel totally renewed!

No more of those plastic bags!

June 22nd, 2009

OK. We hear it over and over now: plastic bags are pretty bad on our footprint. It requires water, energy & usually end up floating around the planet, or too often in turtles bellies.

Here’s one of the prettiest way to carry a reusable bag with you all the time. This video shows how to turn a furoshiki (simple square of silk or other light weight and strong cloth) into a two handled purse (this can also, with a larger furoshiki, work as a backpack).

Ain’t that cool?

Enjoy!

I am thrilled to start this series of posts on fitness. Following Lucie’s efforts to get back in shape will give me the opportunity to share good tips with you on “why” and “how” should we try to stay fit.

Before we start

Let’s say it clearly: having an inactive lifestyle has just the same kind of impact as smoking.  (Read it from Public Health Agency of Canada)

Go Lucie Go! Let’s get back in shape!

June 9th, 2009

Every once in a while, I feel guilty and start training. It usually last a couple of weeks, and then I forget how serious I was and I stop. Last December, the results of my fitness assessment, performed during my Relaxation & Fitness stay at Spa Eastman, should have convinced me that it was time to take care of myself. I wasn’t in good shape at all. But again, it lasted only a few weeks before I stopped training again.

And all of a sudden, some six weeks ago, I decided to start walking at least every second morning. My very first motivation was pretty simple: summer was coming and I wanted to be able to fit in last year’s summer dresses!

Let's get back in shape!

Massage therapy and body treatments for clients suffering from cancer

May 25th, 2009

Recently, Spa Eastman proudly made this announcement:

« In order to offer a moment of rest and relaxation to clients suffering from cancer, Spa Eastman has given specialized training to its massage therapists, aestheticians as well as to its reservations staff to improve skills that will allow them to adequately receive and offer support to this clientele. »

I wasn’t aware of this but it seems like massage therapists and aestheticians in the spa industry are often confronted with a lack of specialized skills needed when offering treatments to clients suffering from cancer. And when they don’t know how to do it, most of the time, they simply refuse to give the treatments. As if it wasn’t enough to be fighting against cancer, clients had to fight for their need to relax in a peaceful environment. In certain cases, clients suffering from cancer prefered to keep their disease a secret lest they be refused access to treatments. Which was not the best thing to do either.

With this specialized training offered to Spa Eastman’s staff, they now are able to respect the clients need and even exceed their expectations.

Destination Spa Vacations: a long-lasting effect vacation

April 25th, 2009

« Spa: it’s a lifestyle, not a luxury ». This is the title of a press release issued by International Spa Association (ISPA) a few days ago. In the actual economic climate, many consider vacations as a luxury they can’t afford. But as many others, I think it should rather be seen as a precious investment in your own well-being, if not, survival.

« Spas are not about luxury - they’re about re-charging your battery, taking time to re-new, and learning how to take care of yourself,» said President Lynne McNees in ISPA’s press release. « Spas are about health, reducing stress and aging gracefully. The key is to take the information you learn at the spa, and incorporate it into your daily routine at home.»
