  1. Hi Lucie,
I am coming to Eastman with a friend, next summer, and I can’t wait! I’ll try to make this short, but I do have some information to share about me, as well as some questions for you. My health issues stem from a bad car accident in 2001, which caused extensive soft tissue damage in my neck and back. I have trouble with back aches and spasms, as well as chronic headaches. More seriously, I was diagnosed with the auto immune disease Polymyositis as well as Interstitial Lung Disease in September of last year. I was VERY ill for a number of months, and with the help of very strong medicines and physical therapy, am slowly fighting my way back to some semblance of health and strength. Before last summer, when my illness hit so suddenly, I was very active: in to yoga, walking regularly, stretching to try to help my back and headache problems, doing regular massage, so forth. A week at Eastman Spa sounds like HEAVEN to me after what I’ve been through the past 6 months. I’m considering doing all of the following treatments while I’m there: hair analysis & treatment, body exfoliation with wrap and therapeutic bath, lymphatic drainage, swedish massage, sports massage, facial, The mineral miracle for the back, Shiatsu OR stone massage, rain massage, miracle mineral for hands and feet, and on my last day – hair done, manicure, pedicure, make-up consult (on my way to a wedding the next day!). I’m hoping to book my treatments soon. Do you have any suggested changes, given what I’ve told you about my health issues? Would you recommend the Shiatsu or stone massage? Or, should I do both and leave out something else? I’m hoping to do about 2 treatments a day (except for the last day), trying to book in the 1:00 and 2:00 hours if possible, to leave time for other classes and activities. And, do you have therapists you recommend that I request for the different treatments I’m interested in? Any feedback you could give me would be so appreciated! I’ve never done anything like this before, and I want to make good decisions about how I spend my week!
    Thanks so much, Krista

  2. Hi Krista,

Well, reading your message, I’m just as excited as you are about your up-coming vacation at Spa Eastman!
In order to make absolutely sure you get the best treatments for your condition, I’ve asked Ilona, Naturopath at Spa Eastman, for her recommandations. As you probably figured out by reading this blog, I’m a Spa Eastman lover but I’m not a therapist at all!
Good news: I just talked to Ilona and the only treatment she would remove from your list is the Sport Massage. That’s it! Otherwise, you can get all those goodies you are dreaming of!!! It will give you the chance to keep both your shiatsu & hot stone massage! Concerning the choice of therapist, you don’t have to worry about that either: Spa Eastman hires only well trained & experimented professional so anyone there will take good care of you. The only thing you may want to mention is your preference between male of female therapist, if you have any. Otherwise, they are all quite incredible!
And, must I add, when you’ll arrive at Spa Eastman, you will be asked to fill up a health chart. With this information in hand, each and every therapist that will take care of you for a treatment will already know about your condition.

And don’t forget to tell me about how it was, after your stay!

    Take care Krista,

    Lucie

  3. Thank you, Lucie! I appreciate your help, and Ilona’s, so much! I have booked my spa treatments, now knowing which ones are the best ones for me. The only problem I have now is waiting to come! I am looking forward to it so much!

    Thanks again,

    Krista

  4. Is this where I can ask a spa question? It’s not clear how to do that.

  5. Sure Deborah! Please do!

    You can ask anything!!!

    Have a nice day!

    Lucie

  6. Hello Lucie,
I will be coming to Spa Eastman from June 18-25, by myself. I am American, and I understand and speak a little French. My question is, do you have many English speakers staying at Eastman? I am happily married, but I’m travelling solo and I’d like to meet some people during the week . Do you have group tables for meals? Also, is it true that there is no public internet at the Spa? Are there interesting shops and places to visit in the area? I want to make the most of my trip to Quebec while enjoying my spa stay!
Thanks, I’m looking forward to it.
    Liza

  7. Hi Liza,

Don’t worry, you’ll certainly meet english speaking people when you come to Spa Eastman. You may get to meet other Americans, english speaking Canadians and… lots of bilingual french Quebecers as well! And indeed, there are always group tables where people gather and share their experiences of the day.

You’ll also be happy with the program of activities: all physical activities sessions are given in both french and english and some of the evening workshops may be given in english as well.

Concerning Internet, I was ready to tell you “no”. But I checked and I was wrong! You’ll get WiFi access in the warm and welcoming common room of the main pavilion, close to the dining room. And if you do not have your computer, there’s a little Internet Café in Eastman village, less then 10 minutes away from the Spa. (But if you want my personal opinion… I would try to avoid reading my mails as much I as could, or at least, nothing related to my “business habits”, just to take full advantage of the whole experience and enjoy the feeling as much as I could!)

Eastman’ region has a lot to offer: outdoor activities and soft adventure, vineyards to visit, boutiques, antique shops, etc. Here are a few links & hints for you.

For an overview of the Eastern Townships, check the region’s website : Tourisme Cantons de l’Est.

Bleu Lavande : the only lavender producer in Canada.
Arbre aventure : for travelling through treetops.
Savonnerie des diligences : soap factory.

The staff at the reception desk will be able and happy to inform you about what to see in the region. You’ll also get the latest edition of the region’s Tourist Guide with your welcoming package when you get to your room.

I hope I did answer most of your questions. Now, I wish you the most fantastic stay at Spa Eastman!

    Lucie
n.b. don’t hesitate to come back to this blog and let me know how it was…

  8. Spa Eastman’s cookery book Le Spa Eastman A Votre Table won Gold in Cuisine Canada’s Canadian Culinary Book Awards in 2006. So, if I had to choose one part of my stay at the spa it would be the food and healthy-for-you sensibility at Spa Eastman. After a stroll about the vegetable and flower gardens, I took fabulous photos of the grape vines heavy with fruit.

If you ever longed to improve your French speaking skills or just to get a firsthand feel for the French language, then this place works on this level, too. I even found myself talking to the lovely canaries and other small birds in huge cages singing in one of the large reception rooms. A larger bird, a mother, sat on her eggs. Nature and life are all around at Spa Eastman. I adored hearing the therapists speaking in French inviting me to my treatment rooms. Guests are a cross-section of age groups with an outlook to relaxation and fun times.

But it was the Duet maple sugar body polish and massage that set me free after a day’s hiking across a small section of the 315-acres. Quebec is known the world over for its maple syrup products. I liked the choice of whether to take part in one of the daily activities such as fitness walks, tai chi and aqua aerobics, yoga, Pilates, swimming (heated outdoor/indoor pools), fitness class, workshops and lectures, visit the hair salon, or just to simply do nothing and enjoy the refined and at the same time casual ambiance. Sometimes my muscles ache…so I’m interested in the Miracle Mineral treatment that I’m told is excellent for arthritis and muscular pain.

  9. Lucie,
Thanks so much for your helpful answers. I just have one more question. Do you know if I’ll need to bring electrical converters to Eastman from the US?
    Thanks again, Liza

  10. Hi Liza,

Don’t worry: it’s exactly the same as it is for you back home.

If I remember right, you must be just a few days before leaving for Eastman. When preparing your luggage, don’t forget to pack your swimming suit, comfy walking shoes, indoor shoes for physical activities, flip-flops… sun protection… if you already have your personal re-usable bootle of water, you may want to bring it along cause you’ll get natural spring water “on tap” all over the place! You may want to bring a good book but think about bringing also a blank notebook, in which you can write your experiences, discoveries, relaxing thoughts, confidences from your innerself…

Enjoy your stay Liza. Take care (and if you don’t, they will!!!)

    Lucie

  11. Thanks Lucie!
